I wanted to create artwork for Greg Kwedar's Sing Sing that mirrored a few defining features of the film.

Firstly, the warmth at the heart of the story—a film set inside a prison, yet radiating humanity. For this I needed the color palette to feel alive and inviting, contradicting the coldness the environment suggests.

Secondly, the open sky dominating the composition above the actual Sing Sing prison. That, plus the bird at the center of the poster, communciate a deliberate message of freedom in its fullest sense. Not in just the literal and physical forms, but the freedom found in self-expression, in art, and in becoming something more than what the world has decided you are.
